They joined me in donating their time so that all money raised is tax deductable! Lots of rackets donated to Set 2 Serve, who will then restring and regrip and put in the hands of some wonderful Austin area children who normally do not get the wonderful life skill developing opportunity of tennis!! So much so that we are expanding our USTA quickstart tennis program to Tuesdays too! A special thanks to John Lloyd (quickstart specialist trained in New Zealand) who has come out several times to not only work with the kiddos but has also stepped up to help train staff to create better program for all involved! Ashley Spicer ( Syracuse tennis playing graduate and Alumni of Coach Kevin's Junior Development program) has really made quite a positive impact on the Dove Springs tennis program! ( we are now reaching between 12-20 wonderful kids each Wednesday) Active Athlete plus has continued to be a great supporter of the program ( thats where we got John from).
They will also be teaming up with Set 2 Serve to start our monthly tennis mixers out at South Austin Tennis Center, btw the first fundraising event will be May 13th 6:30-8:30, with Coaches running drills, games and then joining in on the matchplay! Coach Kevin ]]>Sun, 03 Apr 2011 21:15:16 -0800http://www.set2serve.net/1/post/2011/04/set-2-serve-tournament-huge-success.htmlWe had a wonderful time educating parents and players alike "Life skills through tennis" We had close to 80 participants and thanks to South Austin Tennis Center for hosting the event. The USTA Texas Section supported the event as well by providing prizes and other fun stuff! ( including rule books and parent education material that made its way to the hands of those who needed it :0) Rebecca Jackson and Chloe Lawrence won the sportsmanship awards for the girls ( their very own Set 2 Serve t shirts!) On the boys side it was Jake Silberman. 100 percent of the profits will be donated to Set 2 Serve as the tournament director I was pleased with the event and how many wonderful people we were able to reach! Thanks to all the volunteers and a Special thanks to Kristen and Emily Clarke who were wonderful help!  And if you missed out on volunteering for this event.......wait for it.......Davis cup is coming to Austin and Set 2 Serve will be putting together a volunteer group to help as well!! A special thanks for all who helped make it happen. Austin Country Club pros, Richard Kane and crew, Austin Tennis Academy led by Brian Notis, Active Athlete Plus with Jason Hufford and John Lloyd, South Austin Tennis Center with Jo Atherton, John Hospod, Mansion Select, The Austin Area Boys and Girls club and the entire St. Edward's tennis team led by Coach Russell Sterns and countless mentors!! Many wonderful children left with a wonderful tennis experience thanks to all who participated! This is an annual event that you can join in and help share the wonderful experience of developing life skills through tennis, check out the How you can help page for this and more opportunities to provide and uplifting experience for many children ( some at risk youth) who would normally not get the opportunity. With the many volunteers helping out it enables us to provide an enriching mentoring experience too, remember "When one teaches, two learn"
